A-series rockers

I finally got my Bugeye 948 A-series engine apart for a pre-season check. This
is a very fresh engine, and almost everything looks it. It has a Kent 649 cam
and lifters, std pushrods, 13:1 CR (or so).

One problem found- the rocker arms are galling on the valve contact pads. These
are the stamped rockers, welded for strength as always advised, with the offset
bushings. They obviously aren't up for the job, for some reason.

It would seem something is wrong here. Maybe the pads are too soft, or needed
to be heat treated after welding? Maybe the rockers were used, with a stock
lift cam, which is not reccommended.

It would be a shame to have to toss out the virtually new offset bushes as
well (They are reamed to fit, but maybe they will fit new rockers) The stamped
rockers seem to be listed as NLA, so I have a few other choices:

-get new cast/forged rockers
-build up a used spare set I have
-Get these rockers rebuilt

Modern tech rebuilds of your rocker assembly. Shafts chromed and reground,
rockers bushed, machined, refaced and aligned. All at a reasonable price.
$140 for a GT6+ including several new rockers. A new shaft is $85 and
won't wear as well. I shipped them the unit, they turned it around in
three days. It looks better than any I've ever seen - on top of all that
work, they molycoated the whole thing. They don't take plastic; call
them for a estimate, they'll call you with an exact quote after they have
the unit in hand. - Chris Kent Kantarjiev <cak@parc.xerox.com>
