Taimar Interior Rearview Mirror Removal

All,

    The windshield-mounted rearview mirror on my Taimar is about shot
(wobbles about freely and is loosing the silvering around the edges).  I
have a
replacement, but don't want to ruin the (expensive) windshield while
removing the old one.  Anyone have a good, safe procedure?
