Rich-
The important thing is of course that the wheels will fit. I have used
14" diameter and am now using 16" diameter and you could likely go even
bigger, depending on the TIRE outside diameter. You must deal with
offset and the rear is the most critical. That's the difference in
dimension between the flat (the part the bolts go through) and the rim.
You can look at your existing wheels and take measurements from them,
but to be sure, measure on the car. On the wheel, just use a
straightedge (yardstick or even a 2 x 4 board across the inside rim of
the wheel, (be careful to measure the RIM, not the TIRE), and measure
down to the flat. On the car, lay the board on the flat of the hub and
measure to the lower spring mounts on the suspension. That's the number
you need, less a small dimension to clear the mounts, particularly the
forward mount which is closer due to toe-in. Then you'll need to look
at the wheel opening. If the new wheels stick out and the diameter is
too big, you'll rub at the top. My limited experience (two Griffiths
and my Vixen) is that you may have to build some wider bodywork at the
rear; the front you might get away with leaving as is.
Best,
