This car was bought in the Washington D.C area some years back.
It has less than 20 k miles on it. I've upgraded the cooling system. It
has Cortina Lights, plexiglass side windows and the GRILLE VENTS
behind the front wheels. The plex. side windows (both sides) are of
unknown origin. I believe I am the 2nd long term owner of the car with
buyer/seller sandwiched in between. Car was originally Burgundy and
repainted once . Now is a Dark blue almost black. I bought the car
primarily due to the low miliage chassis. The engine had some problems
related to the inadequate cooling system.
With my long history with Triumph cars, of wich I am well versed, I
sincerely respect the information that you have supplied. Having co
founded the TRIUMPH Register of America some 25 plus years ago and been
more than casual historian with the side screen TRs ,I fully appreciate
the importance of correcting mis- information.
I've been on a quest to locate the remaining Swallow Doretti Sports
cars in the world (less than 300 built) over the Past 15 or so years
primarily driven by the convoluded history that had followed the cars.
With the efforts of the Registers in England and Austrailia we are
tracking some two hundred of them now. This is a car with no avilable
manufactures archives to derive answers, relative to production, from.
With my engineering background and Registry intrests, I keep records on
details from the Doretti cars in order to provide some assemblance of a
reference to draw production change history from.
I am aware that statements made are only as good as the input of
information you have to work with. Seems I somewhat confirmed the low
numbers or at least started to investigate it some 14 years ago when I
bought the car. This was through some sort of published TVR book. The
reference escapes me at this point. I welcome any input you have and am
including the serial number so you might more adequately ID this car
with substantial information about it from which to draw your
conclutions--The number only 50 made came from the enthusiast in between
guy I bought it from who was versed on TVRs and dealt with them
considerably. The Cortina tail light thing and the steel bumper limited
production statement was taken with a grain of salt, knowing the
proceedures of Brittish car production.
Given the suspected error of your statement on the lights and grille
behind the front wheels..

...it's quite possibly the Parts bin overlap that produced the
combination of the Grilles and Cortina lights and steel bumper is the
origin of the " 50" statement that has followed the car?????
Having been involved in putting together rules for creditable
individual marque concours shows - and a historian/restorer of British
cars. I feel quite confident that this car is in tact originality wise
(If there is such a thing with Brittish Cars) The only question being..
the plex side windows???
I welcome your comments on TM 2547 (Need to check the car but this is
on the bill of sale)
