Hello Peter,
The first thing to do is perfectly clean the engine, especially around the
cover. The leak will be much easier to pinpoint.
I have seen a few covers with holes worn into them from the chain tensioner.
Over time, the hole gets bigger and leaks more oil.
Leaks could be from gasket seal failure, or crank seal to. If you clean
everything first and it's leaking that much, you should see the leak after a
short drive. A dusting of a powder could help.
Have you checked the tightness of the cover fasteners? Loose bolts will allow
the gasket to fail. The cover will need to be resealed.
Check the oil pan bolts to, being careful not to over tighten.
