with no second chances to get it right.=C2=A0 If we were the last man alive=
, our responsibility might be simply self-indulgent anarchy. But most of us=
choose to be a member of a community, and that comes with it an ominous, a=
t times terrifying, responsibility.=C2=A0 Randall chose to accept that resp=
onsibility, steadfastly committed as a loyal friend, a loyal husband, a loy=
al member to his family, a loyal American, and, as I recall, one concerned =
about the broader issues of the world we live in.=C2=A0 I don't think I exa=
ggerate when I deem that he was the enshrinement of what it meant to be the=
leader and spokesman for his community.=C2=A0 When he spoke, people listen=
ed, and were better for it.=C2=A0 You knew he cared, not just about the tec=
hnical problem in front of him, but about you, the person presenting that p=
roblem.=C2=A0 If it's possible to leave life without regret, I only hope I =
can be half so successful as I gauge him to be. =20
We have seen an outpouring of grief and loss by his friends here.=C2=A0 =
I am certain we are but a small part of the loss those closer to him feel. =
