Rick,
Glad you chimed in, and you are right things can and do change and opinions are
just that. But that is what these sort of forums are for too?right?
Yes my experience is old, but it seems to have come around again in this new
grouping of the classification for the race in question. Right, wrong,
perceived or real it always seems the small bore classes get the bottom rung on
the ladder. Hey you should have taken the reason they chunked us in with
Lotus?s, 911?s, 240Z?s and such as a compliment to your ability to make that
dang Spit run so fast LOL!!!!
I would also refute your comment of how I called SVRA a bad organization,
please reread what I wrote as I took quite a bit of time to make sure it was
about the incident and NOT the organization. SVRA is a well-run operation, and
they are nice people, the functions come off pretty darn well. I never
?bashed? SRVA as you say, it was all about the various incidents that happened
to me in first person experience. There was no exaggeration at all, I was
there. I am not sure but I don?t even think you were at that race but I can?t
remember. I am guessing any data you would have gotten would have been from
people at SVRA, maybe that would also be skewed to the SVRA side of the table
possibly??? Who knows.
The bottom line is I spent a lot of money to play, got put in a class where
there was no one to play with, complained and got an un sensible answer. Seems
the same thing is happening again at the race in question?? I took the time to
send e mails (more than once) finally got a response that I would be hearing
from specific individuals that never called. I own my own business and know how
damaging it can be if you don?t follow up on complaints and make sure they are
handled as best as they can be. If mine had been given any consideration maybe
we wouldn?t be talking right now. I also understand mine wasn?t the only
complaint on the same event and same issues. I won?t name names but they got
the same results I did.
I do really appreciate the apology, that was not necessary but tells of your
sincerity. Like I said I will run with SVRA but it sure is difficult to do it a
lot of times with the run groups being so short and with so many different
classes in said group that don?t ?match?. Hey maybe this is a wake up to all
vintage organizations that less groups of ?stuff? and more track time is the
key vs celebrity races and two wheel races and a lot of the other stuff that
gets in the way of the reason we all do this?track time.
Maybe you and I can change the vintage world ??..now that?s a scary thought!!!!
I am sure I will see you somewhere and I hope you?ll be glad to shake my hand.
I know I will be more than happy to shake yours.

Just thought I would weigh in here, fist of all let me say I am all about free
speech and voting with your checkbook and would not have it any other way but
when one side goes on and on about how bad an organization is without rebuttal
it gets a little old plus as major contributors to this forum one would assume
these individuals would are experts on this subject when the realty is its just
another guy with an opinion, kind of like watching the news ;-). You can bash
SVRA all you want but for those of you who have not raced with SVRA don't
believe everything you read and, I am not saying the previous opinions are not
valid because they came from individual experience however keep in mind there
are 2 sides to every story, also the points made are greatly exaggerated, to
make a point I suppose. I will not address the comments and turn this into a
pissing contest but I would like to suggest that those of you who have never
raced with SVRA take the previous comments with a grain of salt and do you own
research about SVRA.
All the best!
Gee Mark, tell us how you really feel. But I agree that VDCA, VRG, VSCDA etc
is where our cars are accepted with appropriate track time.

I got hung up in this same mess at Mid Ohio a few years ago. Tony did finally
answer my e mails but the SVRA people he asked to call me and discuss about it
never called. The BS reason at that time was that Rick Parents Spitfire was so
fast that they got complaints on him and moved all Spits to the class that
matched his lap times????????????????????????
So if Mario Andretti comes to the races in a Spec Sprite does that mean all
Spec Sprites move to the GTP class???? This was also the weekend that tech said
my car wouldn?t be allowed back unless I changed the windscreen as it was a
dark tint and they couldn?t see their hand thru the tint??? Go figure.
It?s really tough to support an organization like this that was started and
grown on the backs of small bore cares. But now the small bore cars are
consistently huddled to the worst start times, run in multiple class groups and
is basically being snobbed off by the big money owners and cars. I mean really
an entry dollar is an entry dollar, the price is the same either way. The small
bore tears up less stuff on track, causes fewer delays and typically represent
themselves quite a bit better than the money runners too. I?ll probably run
with them some but it sure does hurt to pay 700.00, with no enduro included,
and get 2 sessions a day for three days. Do the math120.00 per 20 minutes is
pretty pricey to me. And that?s in no one goofs the session before or during
your session.
Another thing what is the point to have the celeb?s show up and race, do we
really care??? I mean does it promote more entries, I can?t imagine why. I
don?t want to race Mairo, he?s gonna kick my ass in lesser equipment any
day?what fun it that. Plus that?s one more session that is wedged into the days
already too short on track per group schedule.
Are we racing the cars for what they are/were because we enjoy it or are we
putting on a show for the celebs and spectators for the benefit of the
organizer?? Dang if I want to drive 8 hours one way, get less than 2 ?hot?
hours on the track, drop 1750.00-2200.00 on a race weekend and not be so damn
worn out that I want to skip the last session because I have had ?enough?!!
Thereby my love for VDCA, if your half fast you always got someone to run with,
the groups are consistent and pretty darn safe too. They are there to have FUN.
If you don?t get enough track time then you got a mental issue and the price is
really fair too. Granted due to having fun and the fair price we don?t go to
Sonoma or Road America, but we sure wear it out where we do go I can tell you
that much. I remember the early days at HSR and it?s sort of like that.
Everybody there is there to beat your butt if they can, but if you need their
spare distributor so they can try to beat you they will gladly let you have it.
No beating and banging and cold ones after the fact.
Ok I?m done, sorry if I went off on it. Just bugs the crap out of me that the
groups that made vintage racing into vintage racing are now the goat in most
organizations eyes.

SVRA has merged group 3 with group 8 and 5A. We will be out with 911?s that
make over 2 times as much power. Additionally, we paid for the test and tune
day to shake the car out from winter hibernation. They have us going out a 8
after a 7:15 drivers meeting. Not much time, but someone has to go first. What
really sucks, is that we have 2 orientation groups out with us on every other
test session. So if we miss the 8 AM, we are out with the orientation groups
every other time we are on the track. You would think that they could have at
least spread the orientation groups out over all the sessions. That would have
allowed all to share in that fun.
We want to go have a good time and I am going with a good attitude. However
we paid $700 in entry fees and I feel like the true vintage Sportscars are
being treated like the outcasts at the event. I started running events at RA
over 30 years ago and it may be the last time we do the Spring event at RA. I
hope to report good news at the end of the event, but I am skeptical.
We will have fun with some of our good friends that meeting us at the event,
one way or another. Just wish the track time was not so jacked-up.

Which run groups did they change?

Jeff,
We have been thinking about it. We really like SVRA, but we are really unhappy
with some thinks going on at Road America next week. We are going to see what
happens while we are there before making any final call on mid-Ohio. SVRA
changed the run groups two days ago. We have been registered and paid since
last winter. Now I feel stuffed into a mess based on the changes at the last
minute. It is too bad, because we like SVRA.
