They used two different pins in the lever. Some were split pins, which =
can be driven out in any direction. Others were taper pins, which have =
big and little side. They must be driven in the correct direction. I =
have replaced these with the tranny cover off and the transmission in =
the car. The O-ring is in a groove in the case on the outside and can be =
replaced after removing the lever. You have to be gentle when driving on =
the lever as you don't want to bend the shaft. The key is deciding which =
way the taper is going. Clean each end good and decide which end is =
which. A good punch of the correct size is a must. Can be done if you =
are patient and careful. Don't get in a hurry and bang the hell out of =
it.
