The wire that winds up attached to the stud on the alternator will be the o=
utput, carrying 40+ amps.=C2=A0 Originally, that would have
been the yellow wire, but my suggestion is to not try to reuse the original=
wire as it is only designed to carry 25 amps or so;
while even a "mini" alternator will put out almost twice that much if the b=
attery is down.=C2=A0 Any auto parts store should have a
smallish roll of yellow wire in 10 AWG stranded (or better yet 8 AWG) at a =
reasonable price; that will be better able to handle the
full output of the alternator.=C2=A0 And it will be much easier to install =
a ring terminal (to mate with the stud on the alternator) with
nice fresh wire instead of that 60 year old stuff.

Where the old control box was, you'll need to separate the small yellow wir=
e that runs into the harness from the larger yellow wire
that originally ran to the generator.=C2=A0 The small yellow wire leads to =
the warning light on the dash.=C2=A0 With the alternator, it will
need to go to the separate 'L' terminal on the alternator.=C2=A0 You can us=
e either the original yellow/green or original yellow for that
purpose, as the current is very small (just enough to run the light on the =
dash).
