So don't listen to him, and instead read the excellent series of articles on
the Buckeye Triumphs web site. The "Disassembly" article talks about this
exact issue, and shows how to solve it.

(Hint: Since the bearings are a press fit on the mainshaft, you need to make
a simple puller to force the shaft through the rear bearing in order to
remove the extension from the gearbox.)
