My tr2 has corroded sockets. I clean them up and use conductive grease.

Like it or not, I seem to replace the bulbs on the tr4 every few years due
to corrosion on them.  Also, presumably due to vibration,  the little
solder balls flatten out on the bottoms and can make poor contact, too.
Then there's always the pesky grounding issue....
