There is quite a bit you can do depending on how crafty &
adventuresome you're feeling. This site has an excellent tutorial
that includes calibration & assembly:

At a minimum you could try your hand at reclaibration and see what
results you get. Depending on the underlying cause your results may
not prove to be linear... i.e. you may only be able to get it accurate
in part of the range, but possibly worth a try.
