The first thing I would check is the oil pressure relief valve spring. I have
seen a number of them that have thinned sections from
years of rubbing against the bore that they are situated in, not to mention
detempered from heat, and softened by being compressed
for 35 to 50 years..
New springs are cheap and easy to replace. I never put an old one back.
