Our (not so big) town has a used tool store.  Sort of a pawn shop that only
takes in tools.  I have used it a couple of times for a big socket or such
for a one-time or seldom-time job.

Kinda sad, especially in these times, as it's a reminder of guys who have to
hock their tools to make ends meet -- but a grest source of affordable
quality tools.
