My 1970 Mk3 (twin SUs - 1296 engine) would return an average of 30 "around
town" and easily reach 33 to 35 on a trip but that was on 92 octane fuel. I'm
not sure if the single carb 1500 Spits can effectively run on "regular" (89
octane) but, if so, you'd get more overall savings from a Mk4 model.
