First, a 1/8 NPT equals 27 threads to the inch.
A 3/8-24 of course makes 24 threads to the inch, they are not compatible.
Second, while the 3/8-24 tap cuts straight (parallel) threads, the pipe tap
cuts tapered, self sealing threads.
Each has its own purpose, they are not the same.
