A rebuilt Lucas isn't going to help.  What would help is chasing down all
the dubious connections and tired contacts/filaments/flasher that keep your
turn signals from working on just the battery.

Or a different alternator that puts out more current at idle would help,
too.  

BTW, there is a Bosch alternator that is pretty much a direct replacement of
the Lucas (same mounts, same plug), rated @ 55 amps and with more output at
idle.  Much easier, IMO, than a GM.  Prices will vary, but I got a rebuilt
Bosch for $50 plus a $20 core charge at my local FLAPS.  Original
application is a 78 Ford Fiesta with Bosch alternator (meaning A/C or heavy
duty electrical; standard duty alternator was a Motorcraft that has
different mounts & wiring).
