But high compression also tends to increase the chances of pre-ignition, and
can even cause it directly (as in a diesel). Detonation also tends to lead
to pre-ignition.
Since in practice it's very difficult to sort out which is which (and each
one tends to lead to the other); it's easier to just lump them together.
Anyone try water injection ? I meant to try it while running the shaved
head, but never actually got a reasonable trial made. One of my
cobbled-together nozzles came apart and got sucked into a cylinder.
