I think you are pretty much spot-on! This is the description from
Honda's website:
"CVT is an advanced transmission that substitutes the gears found in
more traditional transmissions and replaces them with a metal push-belt
running between a pair of variable-width pulleys."
I know I get a lot of 'belt whine' when I really jump on the gas.
Bothered me at first, but it's starting to grow on me as well.
