I was reading through Automobile Magazine with the Alfa on the cover ($200K
for an Alfa?) and there was an article on the birth of our Interstate
Highway system. In the article they mention the Zero Milestone Marker which
is the point "from which all road distances in the United States and
throughout the Western hemisphere should be reckoned." For all the times
I've visited DC and walked around the White House and South Lawn I've never
noticed, or maybe realized, what that stone was. Anyhow....you can find a
good explanation of it here http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/infrastructure/zero.htm
