Greetings Bruce,
If the solenoid will not operate in 3rd / 4th gear, but will in 2nd,
your problem is likely associated w/ the 3rd / 4th GBX switch. Perhaps
the GBX switch is not being moved enough by the shift mechanism to
make. Try jumpering across the switch and see what happens. If you get
to the point in the diagnosis chain of needing to know what pressure the
O/D oil pump is making, I can supply an O/D oil pressure gauge - details

Subject: O/D issues
My "A" type O/D had begun to have a mind of its own as to when it would
engage. So I cleaned out the filter and it worked like a champ for about a
month then did not work at all. Thinking it was the solenoid, replaced it.
When I turn the ignition switch on, put it in 3rd or 4th gear, nothing
happens. If I put in 2nd gear, the solenoid will actuate. Thinking it
might be
a bad switch on the gearbox cover, I switched them but get the same
results.
Any suggestions?
Bruce
