I believe it was actually a joint development effort, at least initially. SAAB
quickly modified the motor, but it remained based on the same design for many
years, even to the 2.0 turbocharged version making 155 bhp. Although almost
unrecognizable as being related, the derivative slant-4 motors were used until
just recently.
Hmmm, wonder how hard it would be to put a "blower" SAAB motor in a Stag ? More
power with less weight, and without the over revving problems associated with
the pushrod Rover motor.
