Had a similar problem with the '74 Volvo. It had always run nice and cool,
then one day it started to run hot. It wasn't the temp gauge, sender,
blockage, etc. Turned out to be a blown head gasket. The final determining
factor was tiny bubbles that could be seen in the radiator overflow bottle.
Besides that, there were no other signs of a blown gasket.
The TR4A has a radiator overflow bottle. Might be worth checking to see if
you have those tiny bubbles. Good luck...
