A cogged belt has reliefs cut out of (molded into) the inner surface to help
allow it to negotiate the tight radii of the water pump and generator pulley.
They are fully interchangeable.

57 TR3 with cogged belt. Yes, it still has a cogged belt. The engine is on
a stand and has no flywheel but it still has a cogged belt. ;-)
