I must agree with Bob on this one:
I have a TR6. The TR6 spare sits in a depression in the boot floor. The
standard tire is too wide to lie flat in the depression so the floor
cover of the tire has side rails to lift it. This causes the boot to
lose space and to look silly. I posted an inquiry on the net and a kind
lister sent me an old TR3 rim. A bit of blasting and paint and a simple
155 (kyo something or other) tire gave me a very nice looking narrow
spare that lets the boot floor lie flat.
Since I don't plan on driving many miles on a spare, I recommend the
procedure. If you're worried about originality, just make up a floor
board from plywood and save the original for when at shows.
Cheers,
Mark

Subject: Re: [TR] TR6 rear wheel & wide tyres
The spare tire compartment on the earlier models, pre 60000, will not
hold anything much larger than the original "tyre", (155?) the later
ones have a bit more room and I think they will hold a larger one
(165?). But so what? I have a painted wire wheel with a narrow tire in
the spare tire well and chrome wires with the more widely available
fattter tires on the car. Never had to use the spare - although I did
loan it to a friend that came to a tune n tech and discovered he had too
many broken spokes. But, it's not unlike modern cars with those little
donut spares.
