Try a turbo shop for good heat shield blankets. If you can't find that, an
air gap heat shield of Ti, steel or aluminum of minimum 1/2" works almost as
well. Ti is the best. A double half circle (that is two pieces 1/4" apart)
and the bottom layer 1/2" from the starter case. This works amazingly well.
Learned all this when in the turbo business for several years and protecting
the master cylinders and other perishable parts from the 1800 degree F turbo
heat.
