When I was just a lad working in a gas station, some guys were switching out
rod bearings on their stock car, only they read the book wrong and torqued
them to the main bearing spec - caused that same kinda symptom :-) I also
had the engine seem to freeze up on my TR3, turned out that the starter gear
had jammed in the ring gear - that might be something worth checking.
