Your problem of fitting a hi-torque starter is not necessarily the direction of the ring gear - since the starter does not turn until the drive is fully extended - but the number of teeth on the drive. I believe the two different TR3 flywheel arrangements take different drive gears - either 9 or 10 teeth. Others can be more specific - Randal?
