OK folks, back on my soap box<VBG>!!!

Yep.

reproducible way. >>
You can't because it is already STRETCHED to it's "design" limit!!
<<Therefore the bolt might fail, or allow too much stretching.>>
Yep and past it's designed "allowable" "stretch".
<< Both outcomes could result in catastrophic failure.>>
Correct and NOT good.
<<The answer is to have new bolts, but no one knows where to get them. >>
Some Companies DO!!
<< I THINK that new versions of these calipers are being made, so I would
have thought that one could either get new bolts>>
Most likely, all specs except size and shape have CHANGED making the above
moot.
<< or get exact specifications for the bolts to find a source of a good
replacement. Unfortunately, I have seen neither new bolts, nor the
specifications.>>
Nor will you.
<<Also, I have heard of NO, ZERO, ZIP reports of failures of split and
rebuilt units. Of course there may be no reports because dead men tell no
tales....>>
Almost, Tony<G>.
Ever heard of Product Liability Insurance?? IMHO, the very LAST
"person"/"company" in the Universe to release that sort of info would
be........................????
Another somewhat interesting thing is that whilst we CAN (and do too often)
re-use bolts like Cylinder Head ones, we really should not. BUT, that said,
the "stress/stretch" on them is way less and way less catastrophic. Do you
thibnk NASCAR/IRL/F-1 re-use head bolts??<G>
As a point of info, once a fastener has been torqued to the specification
for it, said spec no longer applies!!! PERIOD. (It is no longer the "same"
fastener!!)
And just one other "insurance" point<G>. My shop keepers ins. is WAY less
after my agent (a long, long time ago<VBG>) gave me an option of NEVER
rebuilding ANY "hydraulic" components. "Systems" with or w/o new/re-built
(by someone else) IS OK.
Guess which way I went!?!?!
Nomex on!!
Regards and ALL have a Happy New Year!!!

PS: This subject has most likely got more hits in MJB's Archives than any
other!!
