The fact is they had a national distribution and a growing number of
owners. A friend in Fla. has a 403 and keeps putting in new engines and
my brother in law outside Edinburgh won't have anything else.
Peugeot came out with a development that had one headlight that turned
with the front wheels to better see the road when cornering. DOT didn't
like it and wouldn't approve it for import. Peugeot, heavily subsidized
by their gov., refused to change to accomodate the "arrogant US gov" and
our gov. refused to bend for the same reason. The gov to gov relationship
is not a new thing. It's unfortunate because they have had advanced
engineering going way back and several productions with the big Italian
exotic firms.
