Well, perhaps I didn't realize it would be a problem with the TR3's.  And I 
guess a lot depends on where the luggage rack places the force on the boot lid. 
 There is some reinforcement under the TR3 boot lid and if the rack feet are 
located near the edges where the force is more directly transmitted to the 
gasket the lit will survive intact.

And what good is a luggage rack if you can't carry stuff on it?
