Tom:
Sounds like the fan hub / pulley is hitting the water pump. Confirm by
removing the fan belt and starting the car. Only let it run long enough to
hear that the rattling / knocking is gone. The keyway in the slot on the
pully has widened allowing the fan hub / pully to wobble on the water pump's
shaft. You will know you are on the right track when you remove the belt
and wiggle the fan pully on the water pump.
