He may be able to license the pictures for other uses. With the modern
Internet,Fed X and priority mail his mobility is no longer a issue. Perhaps
there
is a network of image brokers he could lease the photos to. If he does post
them on the web he needs to blur, shrink or label them as his, once a image
hits the web it is pretty much out of his control.
Are the cars in the photos prized marks or regular racers? If he can locate
the current owners of prized marks they might purchase a copy of the images
(but not the rights to them).
Some larger automotive friendly auction houses deal with memorabilia. Hit
the right event ( a 50's road race car sale) with the $ right $ people and with
some luck a bidding war might erupt.
If none of this pans out, there is always E bay.
