Hi Ian
Just a WAG but the pump etc from a big saloon 2000 / 2500 / 2.5PI will fit
the engine, from memory the rack in the TR6 is in front of the axle (isn't
it) if this is the case I would think that with a bit of imaginative
engineering the rack would also be able to fit, they are a bit bigger
diameter than the manual racks and use different track rod ends and the drag
links have a different sized hole to accommodate the larger TRE but the main
difference is the mountings, I would think that the easiest solution would
be to remove the PAS type mounts from the rack (saw grind) and use larger
diameter manual type rack mounts, It might be possible to fit the track rods
from a manual rack or have the PAS ones turned down and re threaded, or
alternately have the holes in the drag link enlarged to suit the bigger TRE
provided there is enough metal round the hole for this.
Also I saw an article on fitting Auto trans to one for a similar reason, I
think this was in Triumph World Magazine
Just a few ideas for you to bounce around.
Graham.
