After a posting that I made last week where I compared the information about
my car from the
BMIHT with the record from the Standard Register, several people wrote me to
ask for more
information about the Standard Register.

It took me a while, but I found the reference that took me to it in the
Winter 1991 issue of the
Toronto Triumph Club "Ragtop" magazine. Here is the article, verbatim:

"A few newsletters ago we published an article about having the history of
your car researched.
At that time we erroneously quoted a price for this research of US$7.95. The
correct price is
US$10.00 and the preferred method of payment is money order or certified
cheque.

" If you give them the serial number of the car, you will be provided with
such things as original
car colour, options, tires, factory shipping date, etc. You will know how
the car was equipped
when it left the factory.

"If this service is of interest to you, write to"
Joel & Gloria Rosen

Union Bridge Maryland

I found a similar mention in the fall 2004 issue (issue #91) of the TRA
National Newsletter:
same person, same address, same price. This mention did state that the
records were for
TR2, 3, and 3A. I don't know if Joel and Gloria have records for
non-sidescreen TRs.

Joel is the treasurer of the Triumph Register of America (TRA). The TRA was
established to
aid TR2/3 owners in the preservation of their cars. The TRA is the only
organization devoted
to the Triumph TR2 through TR4A series of cars. Availability of the factory
build records is
one of the services offered by the TRA. The TRA also offers the "TRA Judging
Standards
and Restoration Guidelines for TR2/TR3".

If you aren't a TRA member, access to the factory build records is just one
of a number of
good reasons for you to join. TRA membership is US$25.00 for 4 issues of the
newsletter.

>My TR3A is s/n 68639L
>
>The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate for the car provides
a build date of "February
>1960 (not recorded)" and a despatch date of March 9, 1960.
>
>I also have a certificate from the "Standard Register --- extract from the
production records of
>The Standard Motor Company Limited" which lists the car as having a build
date of February 18, 1960.
>If correct, my car turned 45 on Friday. I still have nearly 5 months to go
before I reach that age.
>
>The two certificates do not provide all of the same information. For
instance, the BMIHT certificate
>provides date of despatch, destination, and shipping information. The
Standard Register information
>lists tire size and body shell number. The two certificates differ in that
the BMIHT lists the car's original
>colour as "Spa White" whereas the Standard Register lists it as "Sebring
White".
>
>My car was shipped to Cal Sales Inc. in Portland. It, too, must've sat
unsold for quite a while since
>it wasn't titled until 1963.
