I had a pair of side curtains like those you describe on my TR3A back in 1972.
I actually rather liked them! They fit everything well, including the soft top,
and the "sharp" leading edge locked very nicely into the windshield stanchions,
thereby avoiding the usual "blowout" of the curtains at speed.
