My frame -off restoration of my long stored (23 years)75 TR6 continues. My
intention is to create a sunny-day driver for occasional use, not a daily
driver. So far the frame has been stripped and refinished with POR 15, all the
suspension parts sand blasted and repainted, new poly bushings and rubber
throughout. The brakelines have been either cleaned and reinstlled or replaced
with
new. New rockers and floorboards installed. Final welding of these parts should
be done soon, then comes painting of the tub, etc. I have a few questions at
this point and would like some sage advice from the list. #1 The car is
currently un-insured and located at the house of the mechanic doing the work
for me. I
need to protect my growing investment at this point. Grundy and Hagarty have
insurance policies for collector/antique cars. Any others that you would
recommend? What do I look for in a good collector car policy? #2 What should I
do
with my engine. It currently has about 23,000 miles on it and ran well prior to
being stored many years ago. No special attention was given to the car before
it was parked in a garage all those years ago. The mechanic said that he was
able to turn the motor so it is at least not frozen up. I have obtained a
gasket kit for the motor and I'm planning on having the mechanic at least
replace
them. Should I be planning on doing more to the motor or wait and see what he
finds when he is changing out the gaskets. #3 Although the wiring looks good
without obvious cracking or deterioration, should I consider using this as a
good opportunity to replace the wiring with Dan Master's updated harness to
avoid problems in the future? Considering the amount of money I've spent on
this
project at this point, it seems it might be a good investment to avoid further
aggravation down the line. Thanks in advance for your help.
