For me on the TR3a (much like the tr4 is my understanding) is making sure the operating lever is on the cam, not behind it seems to want to do that all of the time. I have to wire mine so the lever is at the upmost position, then once it is on the studs and the nuts are started I cut the wire pull it out and then tighten down the pump. Just my experience....
