TR6 emissions

Hi folks,
        We are fixing a leaky fuel tank level sender, and are 
wondering about all the plastic tubing running all over the place, 
ending (eventually) at the carbon filter.  Question can I just run 
tubing from the connector on the filler to the overflow pipe on the 
tank and eliminate all the other stuff?   Other than violating 
several State and Federal laws, will it effect the running of the 
car???
