My first British car was a Sterling. The Sterling aka Rover everywhere else
in the world, was jointly developed with Honda/Acura and had the same
engine, tranny and underpinnings as the first generation Acura Legend. You
had Honda reliability coupled with a British-styled exterior and interior,
which was far sexier than the legend.

My 1988 825SL, purchased in 1990 with 15k on the clock, was a very nice
sedan, but was poorly marketed and suffered from some initial quality issues
(I had at least four radio/cassette players). These were eventually
resolved, just in time for Sterling to pull the plug. I had mine for 6
years and drove it for over 100,000 miles with very few problems.

Kinda wish I still had it, but unfortunately mine was a automatic. If my
memory is correct, the Sterling came in second in a sports sedan compare
done by Car&Driver way back when.

Thanks for the correction on Stirling Moss,
