Paul:  The reason for the extra holes is to decrease pressure on the seal. 
Prior to this mod there were reports of seals leaking.  I haven't had any 
problems with mine, I would recooend drilling.  The hole in quest is the 
hole in the bottom center of the main withe the drain extension attached. 
Drill paralell on both sides.
