Not sure of your point, Paul, the list server always chops lines up no
matter what is on them.

However, eBay links can be shortened enough that the list server will not
chop them, by observing that the "/ebaymotors", "&rd=1", "&category=xxx" and
"&sspagename=xxx" parts are all irrelevant, and can be safely edited out of
the URL.

Thus,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=793902531
2&category=33710&sspagename=WDVW
can be shortened to
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7939025312
and still lead to the fraudulent auction page.

There is also a free service at
http://makeashorterlink.com
that can be used to pass complex links through the list server without
having them chopped up.

Of course, some folks' email clients don't handle URLs anyway, so it's
probably just as well to not do anything and let anyone that cares enough
figure out how to reassemble it. Remember, not everyone is using a PC or
running Windoze.
