Thanks for your vendor advice for nuts & bolts.
I recounted and need over 100 fastener pieces and am hoping to cut their cost
by 40%
plus locate an easy source for future needs.
I found in the phone book a 'nut and bolt' specialty shop less than 3 miles
away
- sounds promising and gonna check it out.

I've experienced the same frustration, and have decided that going to
Mcmaster (www.mcmaster.com) to be the easiest. Have to buy in larger
(usually 50 pcs / bag) quantities than I immediately need, but even with
shipping the result is usually less expensive than just ordering small
quantities from the big 3.

Most towns I've lived in have a nut and bolt supply house. Look in the
yellow pages under bolts and nuts. They will carry 90% of what you need for
a very reasonable cost. Another great source is Granger which has their
catalog on line. You may have to buy larger quantities but with their
discount it is still cheaper then the big 3. I needed a special set screw
for my English rebuilt started. Granger had it, but I had to buy a dozen.
However, some bolts just won't be available unless you go to the big 3 and
pay exorbitant prices. I always keep every nut and bolt I remove from all
of my LBCs. A tumbler will bring them back to looking new in very little
time and they are the real thing.

Carl, for the amount of time you will spend trying to locate the exact size,
shape, head etc, etc, I think it is far easier on you to order from the Big
3 where you have each bag marked and you are pretty sure of having the right
ones, mostly the heads will be different from NOS, and remember this keeps
them in business and I really don't think you will save that much.

I have use Spaenaur quite often for my business applications, I have not
bought any fasteners for the TR6 but they appear to have a very extensive
selection. The last time I was in the over the counter charge was a minimum of
$5.00 which is not had to reach. I don't know what the minimum is for shipped
orders but they have a 800 number to the order desk.
