Hi,

Two points...

The stock head nuts are a little taller than anything that you can but off
the shelf. I'm not a materials scientist, but I suspect the extra "meat"
on the stock nuts is there for a reason.

Paying $8 for 100 nuts is a good deal, but what are you getting? For my
money, you cannot beat the quality of the fasteners that you get from ARP.
ARP makes a couple different products that you can use. I wound up buying
a couple of packages of 3/8 NFT 6-point nuts for the rocker pedestal studs
and a couple of dozen of the nuts for the head (I'm drawing a blank, but I
think they are 7/16"-20 (NFT) too. You can get 12-point nuts too. Note:
the nuts that I got have a "pad" on one surface, sort of like an intergral
washer - I still use the stock (hardened) washer too. This setup works
really nice.

If you go to the ARP web site, you can download the catalog and sift
through that. Then you can buy the parts from any of a number of sources
including Summit Racing and other other suspects.

If you insist on getting a non-stock fastener (especially for anything
internal to the engine), it's worth digging around to find some MIL or NAS
replacement as they will be of the highest quality and that's what you
need.

regards,
rml
