Jim, just to be clear, I've never taken apart a TR6, I only know a TR2/3/4
uses dowels.  I didn't mean to imply otherwise.

Exactly.

But since these are 'specials', rather than standard hardware (which has a
different numbering system), they likely are made to closer tolerances than
normal bolts.  There must be some difference that Triumph found important,
or they would have used standard hardware.
