I have IPF headlamps in my Land Rover and am very happy with them.
The lens cut off for low beam is very sharp and I have them aimed so
the cut off line is just below the rear window of a modern sedan
sitting about 10 feet in front of me at a stop light. The low beam in
the bulbs I'm using are 90 watts. They produce great visibility and in
the 3 or 4 years I have had them I've never been flashed by an oncoming
vehicle while in low beam. The high beams are 145 watts. There are
lower wattage bulbs available, but driving the LR at night is an
enlightening experience that doesn't bother oncoming motorists.

Here is URL to a web page that lists the IPF headlamp conversion about
half way down the page. The lamps minus bulbs are about $35.

The TR3 still has a generator so it has PL700s with regular wattage
bulbs.

I much prefer driving the LR after dark.

Oh, about the Moss brand tripod headlamps. I'd advise staying away
from them if you intend to do much night driving. I had a set once
that didn't focus the light beam properly. When I got back to the Moss
management about that I was told they were sold to provide the classic
British car look and the tripod mirror was not mounted exactly for beam
focus. The suggested that if I were going to do much night driving to
switch back to American headlamps or over to genuine Lucas tripods.
This was back in 1988 so Moss may have made changes since then.
