I belive that was someone who received a copy (or fax) of the check, took
it to the bank for verification beforehand. The bank pronounced it good
and later found out it wasn't (IOW didn't do their homework) and then
attempted to recover the funds. Banks will often try to recover lost funds
even when it is not justifiable which is why you should stay vigilant when
dealing with banks.
