It was Castrol ... although certainly lots of people use it with no problem.

I would suggest that straight 40 weight is not the best for California's
climate anyway, 20W50 is better as it will stay thicker at high temperatures
while not causing your oil pressure to shoot so high when cold.

I use only Valvoline 20W50 SynPower, but I believe even their cheap 20W50 is
better suited than what you're using.

You may want to remove and clean the oil pressure relief (regulator) valve.
It's that 'bolt' sticking out of the filter head that looks like it has two
nuts on it and a slotted end.  Turn the lower 'nut' to remove it.  Note the
position of the screw before disturbing the upper nut, but if you still hit
90 psi with 20W50, you may need to back off the adjustment a bit.
