Starting to feel that way. My wife called 911 since I pulled off I-80
near Gary, IN for the generator repair -- I didn't think it was
necessary but the cop who stopped by said he wouldn't want his family
broken down there. Anyway he was clearly mystified that I spent a few
minutes digging around in the back of the wagon, removed part of the
bumper, then told him I needed directions to a Home Depot. Turned out
the Home Depot wasn't open 24 hours so he escorted us to an Autozone
that was. I replaced the "bracket from the overflow bottle" repair with
a couple metal plates from two axle mounting kits. Sadly there is no
generic replacement alternator bracket at Autozone. We made it to my
sister-in-law's in South Bend at 6am.
Frustrating thing is that I always carry a ton of spares, and yet the
things that break are parts I left at home or didn't have a spare to
begin with. Luckily my newest car in 15 years of car ownership was my
'77 CJ5 and with all these all old cars around the house I get lots of
practice.
