Well, the good news first. I drove my 58 tr3 for the very first time last
week. 1.8 miles round the hood.
meanwhile IM about ready to take it to the dmv.
it came with no working lights at the back, no side lights at the front and
the headlights that kinda work.
so i now have most every thing working except for the following.
problem #1) front and back indicator lights don't flash on the driver side.
(passenger side is great). at the back i was left with just one wire after all
others were used and functional. it is a green wire with a red stripe. is that
the right wire? don't see how it cant be but....
at the front driver side i was able to find a connector that does indeed
flash with the clicking of the flasher unit. (insert a test lamp and watch it
flash). it is a green wire with a brown stripe. it however has a wire coming
into
and another coming out of the connector, no room for another wire. the wire
goes to what looks like the front of the steering column. it is joined by 3
other wires, one light green with red stripe, one green with a white stripe and
a
continuously live brown wire that comes from the horn. did the steering column
work as a canceler for the turn signal or does it cancel at the head in the
steering wheel, or is there no canceler? should i be patching into the single
connector by making it a 4 (with 3 wires) way connector? Both the red book and
the haynes manuals have wiring diagrams that predate the addition of the
orange indicator lights at the back, nor do they show the 4 wires going to the
steering column. so no luck with the wiring diagrams. any ideas guys?
problem #2) drivers side headlight works fine and is about as bright as one
could hope for. 3 wires go to the light. one is black (usually suggesting
ground) and is indeed grounded with a little fitting right on to the horn.
on the passenger side the light is very dim on dipped beam and non existent
on main beam. the black wire is just frayed and sticking out there with no
connection to anything. There is no little fitting on the horn on this side
either. clamping it to ground does not appear to make any difference to the
dipped
beam. Still as dim as ever. any ideas? IM still searching for maybe a good
ground. maybe the light itself is not much good. also how do the chrome
headlight
surrounds come off? no i don't have a little screw underneath like the manual
says.
finally how do i get the control head off?
phew so much info.
thanks in advance for your help
